KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia with a local company Ford Motor Associated Industries (AMI) announced changes to its business strategy in Malaysia. Among other things, Ford will stop production of its vehicles at the Shah Alam plant.
At the plant, Ford produced the model Ford Ranger, Everest, Econovan, and Mazda BT-60. The next assembly will be transferred to the only Ford plant that is currently used to manufacture the Volvo brand. Production will begin in June 2008.
Although shut down the factory, this step actually shows the seriousness of Ford in developing its business in Malaysia. "Our sales in Malaysia will continue," said Tim Tucker, Ford Malaysia Managing Director, as quoted Edmunds, on Wednesday (03/01/2008).
There is no certainty about the fate of the Shah Alam factory Ford. But there has been speculation that the plant will be purchased other vehicle manufacturers such as Volkswagen is ending its partnership with Proton some time ago.
In addition, Ford is also interesting with AMI involvement in the sale and distribution of vehicles in Malaysia. Ford has been working with AMI since 10 years ago. Subsequently Ford's business in Malaysia will continue venturnya new company Sime Darby Group.
