Toyota Motor Corp., the largest car manufacturers in Asia, began selling the Prius cheaper version in Japan, Monday, December 26. This model will compete with the Honda Fit, Honda Motor Co's targeting young consumers who like the entry-level fuel-efficient cars.
The car, named Aqua - in the U.S. marketed under the name Prius C - is priced at 1.69 million yen, or about Rp197 million. Cheaper than existing Prius, which sold from 2.17 million yen (Rp253 million).
With these prices, Toyota sure can sell Aqua 12,000 a month in the domestic market. Toyota continues to pursue a target could increase sales by 20 percent next year, one with a market share widened Prius gasoline electric car production.
Prius in domestic sales plunged 51 percent in the first six months of this year to 83,319 vehicles as a result of post-production chain disconnection gemba and tsunami disaster in Japan in March.

Aqua has a length of 3.9 meters, shorter than the Prius that reached 4.48 meters. However, according to Toyota's chief engineer Satoshi Ogiso, Aqua foot space as wide as the Corolla.
